Dustin Off the Next Race: Pennzoil 400 Presented by Jiffy Lube

The addition of the west coast swing for NASCAR truly gives the fans that are on the opposite side of the country a string of events that they could see the best athletes perform.  Three different speedways, three weeks of action, and all three prove that different styles suit different drivers.

But, of all the tracks that NASCAR visits in this three-week span, no track tries to put on more hype, and glamor than the one just outside of Sin City.

Adding Las Vegas to the schedule back in 1998 was a pivotal move for the sport, one year after they introduced Texas and Auto Club Speedway into the fold.  It’s a track that some do still consider a cookie-cutter facility, with it’s 1.5-mile layout and style.  But, the thing about this track that does make it different is the fact there’s more about the area than the track itself.

It’s a place where fans can still enjoy the race, but can also enjoy catching a show either on the Strip or make a short trip to Freemont Street.  No matter where one would turn, there’s always a place to test one’s gambling ability.  Even I often wonder if there’s a slot machine or two in the garage for teams to play when they are done with practice, just to unwind.

It’s definitely the track with the most glamor on the circuit, and having two races there certainly has given a couple opportunities for fans to enjoy all the things Vegas has to offer.

But, it’s still a race that some want to win, and some possibly need to win.

Just look at Kyle Busch.  One week earlier, he got his first win with his new organization just two weeks into the new season.  Yet, outside of the Daytona 500, the race he enjoys winning more is probably at his home track of Las Vegas.  He’s already done it in years past, but every win here still feels good when it gives home town vibes.

However, much like when playing poker, sometimes you have to know when to hold em, and know when to fold em.  Just don’t walk away, and know where to run.

Unfortunately, some teams will count their money while the race is still green.  For the winner, there will be time enough for counting when the race is done.

Come on, you know I had to get in a gambling reference at some point.

So let’s dust off Las Vegas once again this season, and go all-in on victory.
