Horsepower Fantasy Racing: Picks for the Hollywood Casino 400

This time of the season, although may drivers are in the playoffs, the focus is not as much on who is in the middle of the pack, but rather who is at the top and at the bottom.  At the top of the standings, the teams who know they are heading in the right direction, and are secured into the next round without problem.

In this case, a pair of playoff drivers know they are set for the next round and don’t have anything to be concerned for come Sunday.

Those at the bottom, however, are thinking that they cannot play it safe, and try to work into position.  A few have no choice but to go full on, and have only one way in:  take the checkered flag.  This is the mindset of way more teams, whether they are in the top-8, or they are just outside.  One win by a driver seeded between 9th and 12th means someone inside the standings suddenly is on the outside, and a title opportunity is suddenly gone.

That is the mindset at the end of every round of the playoffs, and this week that opportunity is a reality.  After the checkered flag waves on Sunday in Kansas, four drivers will see their Monster Energy green indicators come off, and all the hopes of a title suddenly vanished.

Kansas Speedway once again hosts the final race of the second round, with a field of 12 reducing to a field of 8 at the end of 267 laps.

The League is reducing down after Sunday as well.  No one has secured a win, but a couple are in desperate need of one just to make it into the next round.  That being said, here they are, the picks for the Hollywood Casino 400:

Note:  ALL CAPS indicates those still competing for championship.

MISAN AKUYA:  Brad Keselowski

Can’t believe that Keselowski is in the situation that he is in.  No matter, he can get out of it with a win.  The last mile and half that we went to was Las Vegas.  He of course won.

Rob Blount:  Kevin Harvick

No reason given.

BILLY FELLIN:  Joey Logano

No reason given.

ASHLEY HOBBS:  Jimmie Johnson

Johnson has been riding well lately, so lets see if he can keep that up this weekend.

DUSTIN PARKS:  Kevin Harvick

Alright, here’s where I’m at.  This is my last gasp in this round, because once it’s over, unless I have a lot of help, I’m out.  Last week I thought I used my last bullet.  Turns out, I still had one remaining, and it’s the one with the most fire power.  This track earlier this season was the site where Happy scored his third win in a row for a second time, literally giving him a six pack on the year at that point.  I have not used him yet, and with Phoenix, or ISM Speedway as it is now, being reconfigured, I can’t use him there.  So, why not.  Cocked…locked…ready to rock.

TRISHA RODISCH:  Kevin Harvick

No reason given.

SAL SIGALA JR:  Kevin Harvick

No reason given.  AUTHOR NOTE-Sal is recovering from surgery this week to repair a hernia.  Get well dude, you are missed at your local speedways.

Busch is probably fuming about that Talladega tease. I see him making it happen at Kansas to score his second win of 2018.

No reason given.

Playoff Standings following Talladega:

Ashley Hobbs – 3107 – Joey Logano finished 5th (5) 26

Penny Whitecotton – 3089 – Kyle Busch finished 26th (7) 56
