Horsepower Fantasy Racing: Picks for the Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race

The pressure of the playoffs comes on immediately when the season begins.  It’s the only time all year when all drivers are on even ground, because one week later, everyone is chasing a leader.

As the year continues, that pressure increases, and sometimes that pressure explodes when one least expects.  And when it does, often someone is taken out when least expected.  That pressure then doubles because the driver taken out now wants payback, and they stop at nothing to get it, even if it costs someone else an opportunity.

That seems to be the slogan of short track racing, because whether asphalt or dirt, east or west coast, payback happens when the track is small in size.

No track brings out payback, anger, and aggression than the bull ring in Tennessee.

Over the years, many drivers have gotten payback, in different ways.  Ask Tony Stewart, who showed everyone that maybe didn’t know he was a lefty, and hurled his helmet at Matt Kenseth’s car.  Or Jimmie Johnson, who showed his displeasure with Robby Gordon by giving him the “Stone Cold salute” as he drove by.  And then there’s Dale Earnhardt, who bumped a good friend to victory, then four years later bumped him out of victory as payback.

So he only meant to “rattle his cage,” but it still got him the victory.

It’s time to turn on the lights, and let the engines scream in Thunder Valley at the Bristol Motor Speedway.  The true definition of a Saturday Night Shootout happens at the Coliseum, and in the end one shall rule the kingdom.

The League wants to benefit from the one who achieves greatness on this night, so here’s their choices to rule in the Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race:

Misan Akuya:  Kyle Busch

Need to get some more playoff points.

Rob Blount:  Kevin Harvick

No reason given.

Billy Fellin:  Kyle Busch

No reason given.

Ashley Hobbs:  Kyle Busch

How can you bet against Rowdy at this point?!

Dustin Parks:  Kyle Busch

It’s Bristol, Harvick won last week.  So, chances are good that Rowdy is next on the list.

Trisha Rodisch:  Kevin Harvick

No reason given.

Sal Sigala Jr:  Kyle Busch

No reason given.

Rob Tiongson:  Kevin Harvick

Harvick has made it happen before at Bristol.  I look for him to win once again on Saturday night for his eighth win of 2018.

Penny Whitecotton:  Kevin Harvick

No reason given.
