Horsepower Fantasy Racing: Picks for the KC Masterpiece 400

The old rhyme goes “The rain in Spain stays mainly on the plains.”  If that’s the case, NASCAR has apparently brought a lot of rain with them for the 2018 season.

With the lone exception being Daytona, the schedule has seen some kind of weather related delay of some kind.  One race got moved to Monday, another began but then had to be restarted on Monday, and anything from practices to qualifying has experienced some kind of delay, or push back.

Even yesterday, prior to qualifying and practice, the weather decided to pop up a little thunder and downpour.

Even Dorothy had to be going, “Enough, I know how to get to Oz by now.”

Everyone has heard the Wizard of Oz puns for this weekend, because after all, it is the Kansas Speedway.  But, another thing that makes this state very popular among it’s residents, is the barbecue.  From ribs, to pulled pork, chicken and even some unique ideas such as a barbecue sundae, deep fried chicken, sweet heat wings, and many more, Kansas barbecue has a very unique and distinctive taste.

As with any kind of barbecue, whether it be from the Carolinas, Texas, or Kansas, if it doesn’t stick to fingers, one isn’t eating it right.

Hopefully the League participants don’t have too sticky of fingers, because it’s time to reveal their picks for the appropriately sponsored KC Masterpiece 400:

Misan Akuya:  Kevin Harvick

Either he’ll win or be the best car and have bad luck.

Rob Blount:  Martin Truex Jr.

No reason given.

Billy Fellin:  Martin Truex Jr.

No reason given.

Ashley Hobbs:  Kevin Harvick

Matt Kenseth’s stats do not lie at Kansas; second-place average finish, and seven top-15 finishes in the seve KC Masterpiece 400 races. However, not being behind the wheel, might throw his game off a tab.

So, I will be looking to the dominate driver this season to still flex his muscles. With the best average KC Masterpiece 400 finish of 5.43, I’m thinking Harvick will stomp the field once again.

Ashley Hull:  Martin Truex Jr.

No reason given.

Klarissa Mitchell:  NO PICK

Deadline passed with no pick submitted.

Dustin Parks:  Clint Bowyer

I originally had though to go with Harvick this week, but entering Kansas when I saw the listing, I realized a rather unique and quirky side note.  Harvick has four wins this season, and all four have come with Jimmy Johns on the car.  If he wears the Freaky Fast colors, he’s victorious.  But, put on Busch, he doesn’t make it happen.  This week, it’s Busch Light on the car.

So, I decided to go with the home-state boy, especially since he’s having a really strong start to the year.  Had a great run last week only to be passed by Harvick, but a win at Martinsville, he’s feeling good.  So, I’ll go with Bowyer for his first home track victory.

Trisha Rodisch:  Kevin Harvick

I am consistent.

Sal Sigala Jr:  Martin Truex Jr.

No reason given.

Rob Tiongson:  Kyle Busch

For a while, this driver hated the annual two visits to Kansas.  However, since the fall of 2014, Kyle Busch has six straight top-10’s, including a win in the spring race back in 2015.  And oh yea, he’s driving that purple Caramel M&M’s car. Yep, I’m getting Rowdy on Saturday night…and happy Mother’s Day to all of our moms and our maternal figures!

Penny Whitecotton:  Kevin Harvick

Going for win no. 5!!
