Horsepower Fantasy Racing: Picks for the Toyota Owners 400

Despite this time of year having temperatures close to what is seen more of in October than April, it is technically spring.  That means hometown teams are preparing their own cars to hit the local tracks to either test or start their own season on some asphalt or clay.  It is not much, but it is the heart of what NASCAR is, a grassroots style of racing.

But, even those drivers at the top level have their own chance to take a Saturday night and enjoy some of their own short-track action.

This weekend is the first opportunity for NASCAR to do their own “Saturday Night Shootout” and it happens at a unique track that may not be an oval, but she has all the action of a place like Bristol or Dover.  At 0.75 miles in length, with a very short back straightaway, it’s a constant curve.  High speeds constantly make the action intense, and it has led to arguments among drivers, teams, and even destroyed equipment.

Just as Kevin Harvick when he and crew destroyed the hood of Ricky Rudd’s car on pit road, or Darrell Waltrip when he and Dale Earnhardt tangled at the old track and cost each other a victory.

It’s intense action, and not one driver has said they don’t like racing here.  It must be the reason so many people call it the perfect race track.

Hopefully those in the League want a perfect finish to this weekend as well.  Here’s the picks for the Toyota Owners 400:

Misan Akuya:  Erik Jones

I just feel that a win is coming on for him.

Rob Blount:  Martin Truex Jr.

No reason given.

Billy Fellin:  Kyle Busch

No reason given.

Ashley Hobbs:  Kyle Busch

Just like the commercial, Buschhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!  (Note-different sponsor, but still cool)

Ashley Hull:  Kyle Larson

No reason given.

Klarissa Mitchell:  NO PICK

Deadline passed with no pick submitted.

Dustin Parks:  Joey Logano

A year ago, Logano won this race and locked himself into the playoffs.  Then, days later, that opportunity was taken away when he lost those playoff points due to a penalty.  He’s not been to victory lane since.  If there’s ever a place that owes him one, it’s Richmond.

Trisha Rodisch:  Kyle Larson

No reason given.

Sal Sigala Jr:  Kyle Larson

No reason given.

Rob Tiongson:  Kyle Busch

He’s been Mr. Richmond in the past decade.

Penny Whitecotton:  Kevin Harvick

He’s in my neck of the woods!
