Horsepower Fantasy Racing: Picks for the Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race

Every great sport has that one facility that defines holding a big event.  NHRA has the US Nationals in Indianapolis, while for many Formula 1’s biggest attraction is Monaco.

NASCAR has many great facilities for fans, but when it comes to allowing the roar of the engines, the excitement of the fans, and also the angst of the drivers when necessary, no place compared to a small track in Tennessee.  Although the track itself is small, what surrounds it makes it a mecca for any race fan.  Last fall, this place held a football game that broke the all-time attendance record for NCAA action.  It’s also seen fights where foot shields, helmets, and radios get thrown.  Even the occasional “No. 1″ is shown, and a fight is part of the thrill.

No matter what, when August rolls around, the “Last Great Coliseum” always seems to draw in the fans.  The sun goes down, the lights come on, and the tempers often get heated just as much as the engines.

When the stars of Monster Energy Cup hit the concrete, there will be one focus:  survive 500 miles, and by any means necessary, get to the front.

Every participant hopes to see the finish they want, just without the attitude that could come with it.  Knowing that, everyone is ready to go, and has decided who they want to achieve victory in the Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race:

Misan Akuya:  Jamie McMurray

As the Playoffs gets closer, Jamie Mac’s position seems to be locked.  And why not, with 12 top-10’s and eighth in points.  If things stay the same, he’ll be mathematically locked in come Richmond.  But, after seeing his young teammate and protégé Kyle Larson win for the third time, McMurray has to want to show that he can get another Ganassi car in victory lane. He dominated this race in 2014 and might get his redemption Saturday night.

Ashley McCubbin:  Martin Truex Jr.

Klarissa Mitchell:  Jamie McMurray

Dustin Parks:  Joey Logano

He’s won at this place before, so my money is on him to actually get the win to ensure he’s locked in for the Playoffs.

Patti Rodisch:  Martin Truex Jr.

No reason given.

Sal Sigala Jr:  Kyle Busch

No reason given.

Rob Tiongson:  Kyle Larson

After sweeping the races at Michigan, look for Kyle Larson to score his first non-two mile track win at Bristol this Saturday night!

Penny Whitecotton:  Kevin Harvick
