Horsepower Fantasy Racing: Picks for the I Love New York 355

The last few weeks in racing have seen many announcements of changes, and expected moments.  There has been announcements of throwback schemes, some for Labor Day and another for the finale of the year, and others are drivers making moves to better careers and the teams they are joining.

Apparently NASCAR also feels the need for change because this weekend’s race there’s so much change it needs explanation.

For one thing, NASCAR is always turning left.  Here’ of all the corners, there’s more rights to navigate than lefts.  That’s due to the fact this week, NASCAR hits the road course at Watkins Glen, a track where brakes are important, but controlling the brakes and acceleration are just as critical.

Another change comes in the pit crews.  Every week they have a routine they go through in how they service the car.  This week, that routine is almost reversed.  Teams will have the front tire changers do the rear, while the rear tire changers do the front.  Even the gas man is out of place in where he’s filling the fuel cell.  The unique track setup means possible issues servicing the cars, and maybe slower pit stops.

It is also the final time NASCAR will hold just two road course events in the year, as come 2018, the Playoffs will hold it’s own road race to decide who could potentially move on in the next round of the title hunt.

But the current focus is this season, and the participants are ready to reveal who they think will master the lefts and rights to see the checkered flag in the I Love New York 355:

Misan Akuya:  Kyle Busch

I can totally see two in a row.

Rob Blount:  Joey Logano

No reason given.

Billy Fellin:  NO PICK

Deadline passed with no pick submitted.

Dalton Hastings:  NO PICK

Deadline passed with no pick submitted.

Ashley Hobbs:  Kyle Busch

Gimme back-to-back wins!

Ashley Hull:  A.J. Allmendinger

No reason given.

Ashley McCubbin:  Kyle Busch

After finally breaking through for his first win of 2017, Busch now has momentum on his side and he knows how to get rowdy on a road course so he should do well this weekend.

Klarissa Mitchell:  Jamie McMurray

No reason given.

Dustin Parks:  Denny Hamlin

Honestly this race is much harder to pick than one would assume.  Sure I could go with a road-race specialist, but then also some of the options are guys that are strong every week.  I’m trying to get right in the middle, so I’m going with a former winner here, who recently won just three weeks ago.  Special delivery, courtesy of FedEx.

Patti Rodisch:  Kyle Busch

No reason given.

Sal Sigala Jr:  Kyle Busch

No reason given.

Rob Tiongson:  Clint Bowyer

After the solid top-10 showing at Pocono, look for Bowyer to snap his winless streak at Watkins Glen!

Penny Whitecotton:  Kevin Harvick

No reason given.
