Horsepower Fantasy Racing: Picks for the O’Reilly Auto Parts 500

Each week it’s a different challenge in NASCAR.  The teams take their haulers another round, burning the rubber across the ground, while sending up another prayer prior to the race.  They never complain, and never ask why, and never saw their tears run dry,

This week, the stars of the sport get to compete underneath that Amarillo sky.  Well, at least the Texas sky.

But this week feels different for the Texas Motor Speedway.  The surface is completely different than when the sport last visited in November.  In fact, the track may look the same, but it drives completely different.  The first and second turns, they are banked differently than the second and third.

Almost sounds like Darlington, just with a different shape.

And already teams are having a bit of trouble handling the new surface, configuration, and banking.  Finding the balance at this speedway will be key in order to get around for 500 miles.

In the end, someone is going to victory lane to put on the cowboy hat, and fire off a pair of six guns, making sure they are locked into the playoffs.

With only one participant winning a week ago, everyone is wanting to get back in a winning way.  So, they all decided to saddle up and put on their chaps to go ride into the Lone Star State.  Here’s the picks for victory in the O’Reilly Auto Parts 500:

Misan Akuya:  Martin Truex Jr.

Truex has come so close to winning at Texas.   Both races last year were within his grasp.  But no cigar.  With a win early on, perhaps they can finally find their way to victory lane.
