Horsepower Fantasy Racing: Picks for the Bad Boy Off-Road 300

The Challenger Round in the Chase is to determine just who is here to compete for a title, and who just made it into the title hunt.  A round of 16 seems like a lot, but it is the round that sets the tone for who is a title contender, and who just challenged the status quo of making it into the Chase.

Sometimes there is a bit of luck needed to get there.

Martin Truex Jr. didn’t need luck a week ago, although he did need a “Lucky Dog” to get himself back into contention.  The luck of making it to the next round is gone for that team.  His spot is secure, and he can now focus on winning races just because they can, while the others that are still going after their opportunity to advance in the round.

The pressure goes up as the round continues, and gets closer to a conclusion, meaning every race matters.  Even those that are not competing for a title can make a big impact on the title picture.  They can either keep points away, or steal a victory away from those title contenders.

In order to do that this week, all teams must tackle the shortest race in the Chase, a 300-mile sprint at the “Magic Mile” in New Hampshire.  Over the years, whether the first Race in the Chase, or the second, something always seems to come from this event that is a discussion for days on end.

Now it’s time to determine who pulls the rabbit out of their hat, and takes a lobster home, although the new name of this race could mean a different trophy.

The writers want a little magic after being shut out one week ago.  Each one has a new driver for this event, as the Chase limits their options.  Here’s who they all decided would win the Bad Boy Off-Road 300:

Misan Akuya:  Denny Hamlin

Hamlin won at Richmond, I picked him there.  So this makes sense.

Rob Blount:  Joey Logano

No reason given.

Mary Jo Buchanan:  Joey Logano

He loved that lobster!

Billy Fellin:  Joey Logano

Logano is just plain good at New Hampshire.

Ashley Hobbs:  Matt Kenseth

No reason given.

Ashley Hull:  Brad Keselowski

No reason given.

Ashley McCubbin:  Brad Keselowski

No reason given.

Klarissa Mitchell:  Matt Kenseth

No reason given.

Dustin Parks:  Kurt Busch

Truthfully this one is a little hard to pick, especially considering where I am in the standings.  I need points, but a win would be nice also.  But, to get away from the norm, I went with another winner at this place.  I’ll go with the 41.

Patti Rodisch:  Tony Stewart

No reason given.

Sal Sigala Jr:  Jimmie Johnson

No reason given.

Rob Tiongson:  Kyle Busch

No reason given.
