Horsepower Fantasy Racing: Picks for the Axalta “We Paint Winners” 400

Last Sunday night, it was a race that possibly will never be duplicated.  No race in the near 70-year existence of NASCAR has matched what took place, and possibly never will since then.  It was a once-in-a-lifetime moment that is to be treasured, cherished, and will be remembered for years to come.

It is unique, and unique is exactly what the next track is on the schedule.

No other track is shaped like this one, although it does honor a few different tracks in the country.  It’s big, but different.  It’s simple, yet challenging.  It’s tricky…it is the “Tricky Triangle.”

The Pocono Mountains welcome NASCAR this week, at a track where the action on it often equals the action outside the walls.  It isn’t uncommon to see some inconspicuous woodland creature roam onto the racing surface, including rabbits, squirrels, and the unfortunate groundhog who met his unfortunate end thanks to one of the cars on track.  But, when a track is surrounded by forest, it is bound to happen.

The writers are hoping to avoid any tricks this week, and want a trophy.  Here’s their choices for victory in the Axalta “We Paint Winners” 400:

Misan Akuya:  Denny Hamlin

It’s been a while since the Daytona 500.  About time for another win.

Rob Blount:  Joey Logano

No reason given.

Mary Jo Buchanan:  Joey Logano

No reason given.

Stephen Conley:  Jimmie Johnson

No reason given.

Billy Fellin:  Martin Truex Jr.

I think he goes back to back.

Ashley Hobbs:  Jimmie Johnson

No reason given.

Ashley Hull:  Kyle Larson

No reason given.

Kara Martin:  Kevin Harvick

No reason given.

Ashley McCubbin:  Jimmie Johnson

No reason given.

Klarissa Mitchell:  Dale Earnhardt Jr.

No reason given.

Dustin Parks:  Brad Keselowski

Honestly this track is hard to pick because it’s so big, it isn’t just about aerodynamics, even though the downforce is reduced.  But, one thing I know is that at this place, it can come down to horsepower…and fuel mileage.  So, that being said, I’m gonna stick with the Ford camp and go with Bad Brad.

Patti Rodisch:  Martin Truex Jr.

No reason given.

Sal Sigala Jr:  Brad Keselowski

No reason given.

Rob Tiongson:  Chase Elliott

I’m going with a different route this weekend and instead of going off stats, I’ll be whimsical here.  If the 24 team’s still got it at Pocono, I’m certain that Chase Elliott may have what it takes to win this Sunday with a little help from Mother Nature (if we race Sunday).

Final Remark:  All of us in the Horsepower Fantasy Racing League would like to join together and send our heartfelt sorrow on the loss of quite honestly the greatest champion to ever grace this world.  Muhammad Ali not just was a boxer, he also transcended the sport when he spoke out about the war in Vietnam, and his feelings on converting to Islam.

We all are too young to have witnessed his time in the ring against greats like Joe Frazier, but we all will remember his great lines and how he was not only able to talk, he backed it up when the gloves were on.

He is simply “The Greatest,” and no one will compare.  Mr. Ali, now it’s your time to “Float like a butterfly” to Heaven’s boxing ring in the sky.  We all thank you for what you gave this world, and you will be missed dearly.
